Abstract

Odisha and Gujarat, located on opposite ends of India—one in the east and the other in the west—have both made significant strides in agriculture over the years. Yet, their paths to growth have been quite different. This paper takes a closer look at how agriculture has evolved in these two states, using Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) data as the foundation. By applying the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) and examining the share of agriculture and its allied sectors in the overall NSDP, the study paints a detailed picture of their agricultural performance over a defined period. What emerges is a nuanced understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that have influenced agricultural development in Odisha and Gujarat. While further research is needed to fully explain the differences in their growth patterns, this paper offers a strong starting point. It not only sheds light on what’s driving agricultural growth in these states but also provides valuable insights that can help shape effective policies for other developing regions aiming to strengthen their own agricultural sectors.
